The above link will take you to the video of my ALS Awareness Ice Bucket Challenge.

As the video states, I completed the challenge after rigorous exercise in awareness of the limitations ALS puts on its victims, halting their ability to exercise, and basic mobility.  I also state that I have donated to the ALS Guardian Angels (www.alsguardianangels.com) in memory of Mrs. C. Dennie's mother.  Mrs. C. Dennie is a 5th grade teacher at Riverside Intermediate School.  I have chosen to donate to the ALS Guardian Angels, as they helped Mrs. Dennie's family to make a bathroom remodel for her mother when she was wheelchair-bound.

I have challenged ALL of my homeroom students for the ice bucket challenge.  I explained to them that they DO NOT have to participate.  I also explained that if you are unable or unwilling to donate online, students can bring a cash donation to me, and I will make one lump sum donation for our classroom.

The purpose of the challenge is to raise awareness.  I have talked to the class about the true purpose of the challenge.  If you have any questions, please contact me :)

Record's Reading Rewards!

Since PCSC will no longer be participating in the Accelerated Reader (AR) program, I will be implementing a new reading program for my teaching team.  I have joined Reading Rewards -  See it here!  The purpose of this program is to build a culture of reading in my classroom.  I am looking forward to my students' reading interest growing!

End of the Year Letter to My Shining Stars

May 2013

Dear students,

Our time together is coming to an end.  I want each of you to know that I am proud of your growth this school year.  It was my goal that each of you would leave my classroom “nest”
with the ability to read, write, and think on a higher level.  I have witnessed each and every one of you achieve this goal, and I am truly proud of you!!!

I hope that you have felt cared for and academically challenged while you were in my classroom this year.  I take my role as your teacher very seriously.  I hope to leave you with pleasant memories, academic confidence, and new knowledge.  I also hope that you leave my classroom “nest” with a great sense of community and the strength of a positive attitude.

I would like you to remember something that Martha Washington said . . . “The greatest part of our happiness depends on our dispositions, not our circumstances.”  The key to greatness, contentment, and happiness lies within you.  Make wise choices, and never forget the golden rule.

In the years to come, I hope you will come back to visit me, and also remember our time together with a smile on your face and a warmth in your heart.

Always be a shining star!

All the best!
